March 2026

Hello Artists and Art Lovers!

I don’t know about you, but in spite of the recent snows, I’m feeling it- Spring! Up here on the mountain, the snowbanks still tower, but the water dripping everywhere and the fog rising indicates a shift in the weather. If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Gallery, please be sure to make it a priority. Lynn and her crew have decorated our Art in the Garden exhibit with a real taste of springtime! With some help from Lowe’s and Osborne’s, we have a real garden right here in our midst. Hyacinths, daffodils, tulips and primroses- oh my! The scent is heavenly!

Coming up in May is our Kids’ Exhibit. Students from Kindergarten through 12th grade will have the opportunity to display their artwork and win prizes. If you know a young artist who might like to participate, please direct them to our website for details.

Members who enjoy helping with the logistics of the show are always welcome—though unfortunately none of you are eligible to enter!

All members are welcome to join in—whether you’re an exhibiting artist or simply someone who enjoys the arts. Visit our website to see what’s coming up and find something that interests you.

Sometimes when I look at our membership list, I notice many names of people I haven’t yet met—and I’d truly like to change that. I know others feel the same. Being part of the Association is about connecting with fellow artists and art lovers.

For me, belonging to this group has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life, and I’m grateful for the friendships and camaraderie that come with it.

We’d love to have you join us for our Monthly Members Meeting and Art Talk, held on the third Monday of each month. (Bring a friend! Open to the public!)

We begin at 5:00 pm with Artist of the Month. Members may bring a piece to share, and members and visitors vote for their favorites. The first-place artist is given the opportunity to display multiple pieces at Annie’s Café on Gilford Ave. Other participants exhibit at local banks and libraries. New participants are always welcome. (I have personally sold from Annie’s and other AOM locations, and I know others have as well. This is a great opportunity to get your work out in the community.)

At 5:30 pm, we hold a brief meeting to share updates on gallery news and activities. Artist of the Month winner and venues are announced.

Then at 6:00 pm, our guest speaker takes the floor. Speakers may cover practical topics—such as framing—or demonstrate techniques in their medium, sometimes with hands-on participation. Talks usually last about an hour.

We’re considering offering a Zoom option for these meetings. If this would make it easier for you to participate, we’d love to hear from you.

Please let us know by calling, texting, emailing, or using the Contact page on our website: lakesregionartgallery@lraa.org

Another opportunity for gathering together is “Balderdash”, 3rd Wednesday of the month at 9:30 am. Location varies. It’s simply an hour or so to chat, relax, and get to know fellow members a little better. Stop by if you can—we’d love to see you.

For those whom we’ve never met, I hope that I’ve piqued your interest in what LRAA has to offer- and perhaps, what you have to offer LRAA. I had absolutely no idea what would happen when I took that first tentative step 9 years ago, out of my comfort zone and into that classroom, to fulfill my lifelong dream of learning watercolor painting. If you are hesitating about taking that first step, I’d encourage you to just do it! It’s never too late, you don’t have to be “good enough”- we’re all learners here. It’s the journey that matters- what you do between now and the rest of your life. Have you a dream? A compulsion to create? Longing to share with like-minded people? Do you need a little help along the way? Can you offer instruction and encouragement? That is what we are all about…

I hope to see you at one of our gatherings soon and have the chance to meet you in person.

Gail Brunt

LRAA Vice President

Reminders

Monthly Art Drawings

Every visit to the gallery comes with a little extra fun! All gallery visitors are invited to enter our Monthly Free Art Drawing for a chance to win an original piece of artwork generously donated by one of our artists. We have the artwork for March. Please consider volunteering to donate for April.

Help out a fellow Gallery Artist

Lynn Casey and her team did an amazing job transforming the gallery into a spring art showcase for our Art in the Garden Exhibit. As you can image, it was a herculean task that has resulted in an uptick in visitors and business. Later this month the exhibit will need to be taken down. Watch for an announcement email when a date has been set (April 6th) and if you can help for a few hours, Lynn could use the support.

Where’s Your Artwork Going? Scolding for Gold

While visitors to the Lakes Region Art Gallery in Tilton experience the work of more than twenty artists at any given time, the outside world currently sees only the six artists featured on our website. That website offers an important opportunity to introduce your work to collectors in and beyond the Lakes Region.

Our site averages over 500 visits per month, and since January 1, 2026 it has welcomed more than 1,100 “unique” visitors. Many arrive through Google and other search engines after looking for phrases like “New Hampshire artist.” These are people actively searching for art.

To make the most of this exposure, it helps to refresh the artwork shown on your artist page from time to time. Updating a few pieces every month keeps the site lively, encourages return visits, and improves visibility in search results.

The process is simple—the hardest part is often just remembering to do it. Get noticed as a “gallery artist” and help drive traffic to our website by being a part of it and rotating some of your art in and out monthly. Start Here.

New Gallery Artists

Don Giguere

Don grew up in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and was immersed in the natural beauty of the area from a young age. He spent his youth swimming and hiking around the lakes and mountains and developed an appreciation of nature.  Don began oil painting as a teen and in high school. At the encouragement of artist friends Claire Nadeau, Loren Percy and his high school art teacher Jane Irwin he went to college to study art. Initially Don studied Commercial Illustration but by the end of his studies in Syracuse University he had discovered the Hudson River Painters.

After graduating from Syracuse Don, was determined to be a landscape painter; taking historical painters as inspiration; artists such as Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran and Eric Sloan.

Don hiked to and photographed and painted; locations such as the Catskills and White Mountains in the east and in the west to places like Colorado Rocky Mountains, Wyoming Wind River & Yellowstone Ranges, Yosemite, Mt. Whitney and the Grand Canyon.

Don lived at the Grand Canyon working at a hotel, falling back on his work experience in Lakes Region NH hotels and the hotel business became a career. He remained at the Grand Canyon for a year and a half and moved to Las Vegas for the next 17 years working at various hotels and taking every day off to explore the national parks returning to his home studio to paint scenes he had photographed.

After the tragedy of September 11th 2001 Don returned to New Hampshire and reset his life to photograph and paint the beautiful New Hampshire and he has been painting ever since.

LRAA Welcomes New Artist Member

Philip Gauthier

Born in Portsmouth, Phil grew up in nearby Eliot, ME. where he spent much of his fee time exploring the forests, streams, ponds and nearby coastlines.  These peaceful places instilled in him a deep appreciation for nature and it’s beauty, and led him to pursue photography.  This pursuit let him to the New England School of Photography in Boston, MA. and a lifetime of looking at everything with an open eye and mind.  He made his home in Derry, NH for over 30 years, before moving to the Lakes Region, in a log home on a dead end dirt road in Sanbornton.

Other artistic explorations included basketry, pottery, drawing, carving, wood burning and finally led to the building of ‘assemblages’ of driftwood and found items.

Working now with copper, wood, glass, found items brass and sometimes stone, he creates award winning works of art that are as unique as they are thought provoking.  Sculpted wood, torch painted copper, antique brass and glass, his work is a collection and assemblage of objects whereby the sum of the parts is far greater than the intended purpose of any individual piece.

We also have artists requesting Solo-Shows in 2026. As we firm those dates up we will announce them in our newsletter and post them on the Coming Events page of the Lakes Region Art Gallery website.

Are You Ready for a SOLO SHOW?

Members have the exciting opportunity to showcase their work through a solo exhibition at the Gallery. Solo shows run for two full weeks, from Thursday through Sunday across two consecutive weekends—maximizing your artwork’s exposure and giving visitors plenty of time to engage with your creations. To explore fees, guidelines, and available scheduling, please reach out to the Board of Directors.

Please note, a participation fee applies, and the Lakes Region Art Association reserves the right to decline proposals that do not meet our artist guidelines. We strongly encourage you to review these guidelines carefully to ensure your work is a perfect fit for our vibrant gallery community. Take advantage of this unique platform to share your artistic vision with an engaged and appreciative audience!

February 2026

  • 1)   Please help us stay on top of the floor cleaning, especially this spring.  The Guidelines are under the Book of Clover, and are meant to reduce the work load for all of us.

    2)   Bar codes that you have requested are in the right side of the shelves under the TV.  When printed, they will be there, and it is the artist’s responsibility to check for accuracy and attach them to their art work.  Typically, bar codes that belong in the book are put on the artist’s page.

    3)   Don’t forget to use the bar codes in the Book of Clover if there is no attached bar code on a piece of art work.  You DO NOT need to search the console for anything!

  • Please be sure to mention the drawing to visitors. You might also reassure them that we send only one email per month, as some people are hesitant to share their email address with multiple mailing lists.

  • The general consensus has been that since there is nothing else going on until May, that we will keep this exhibit open longer.  It has been very well-received, so we encourage you to tell people you know about it as there is still time left to come in.

  • Someone to manage off-site venues. Contact Sherwood or Gail for more details if you think you can help.

📬 Interested? Click here to let us know you’re willing to help!

Your willingness to share a bit of your time and knowledge helps keep the Gallery strong, supported, and running smoothly for everyone.

  • Our Mission Statement: "To enhance the ability of its members to create art and to further the appreciation of the arts in the greater Lakes Region area of New Hampshire by education, promotion, display, and sale of the visual fine arts.”

As part of our endeavors to increase foot traffic, we have begun a monthly Free Art Drawing.  Visitors to the Gallery will be able to enter our drawing and sign up for our customer newsletter at the same time.  (One entry/month/visitor.)

We are currently asking for donations of artwork from any Association member.  The drawing will be held on the last open Gallery day of the month.

Winners and/or artists posted on social media in newspapers are good publicity for the Gallery and for the artists.

  • To maximize attendance and energy at our ArtTalks, shows, and other events, we’re working on planning further in advance. Plans have been made for 2026. The earlier we can  promote them—through our newsletter, website, and social media—the better chance we have of drawing a great crowd and building excitement.

Being part of the Association means being an active part of the team that keeps things running smoothly and creatively. From event planning and setup to promotion and maintenance, it takes all of us working together to keep the Gallery- and the Association- vibrant and thriving.

We welcome your ideas and participation! Whether it’s suggesting a topic, hosting a talk, or lending a hand behind the scenes, your involvement truly matters.

Let’s keep growing together and making each event better than the last!

  • We are now requiring that all art submissions and payments be made by the "Art Drop Off" date, which are listed at the top of the registration forms. It is also important to register by the date listed on the forms.

  • Help Us Become Polished and Professional. To ensure our exhibits look their best, we print all wall tags in advance—so completing your registration on time is key. You’ll find registration forms and exhibit details linked in our newsletters and on the website.

Hint:  Mark important dates on your calendar—with an alert a few days before the actual deadlines. Then, get in the habit of checking your calendar each morning.

  • We try to be accommodating with pick up times, and have created a safe space in the back for your artwork.  Please remember to pick up as soon as possible!
