What we do as an Association

Happy April LRAA!

I hope all the recent winter reminders haven’t gotten you down. Life in NH, right?

What exactly does the LRAA do as an Association?

Our Mission Statement: “To enhance the ability of its members to create art and to further the appreciation of the arts in the greater Lakes Region area of New Hampshire by education, promotion, display, and sale of the visual fine arts.”

When our founders came together 86 years ago, their goal was simple: to encourage and support one another as artists. They met regularly and held an annual show in borrowed spaces. Over the years, even as names changed, that spirit stayed strong—and about 10 years ago, the Gallery became a central part of LRAA.

With the generous support of Tanger Outlets, we first opened a Gallery space, and in April 2021 moved into our current, larger and more visible location—helping us better fulfill our mission.

So what do we do with this space?

  • Monthly meetings (now “Art Talks”) with LRAA updates and guest speakers

  • Art classes led by members, including a free monthly kids’ paint-along

  • Four exhibits each year (including a Kids’ Exhibit and our August Juried Show)

  • Opportunities to show and sell work at multiple offsite locations

  • Month-long exhibits at Laconia Library, Gilford Library, and the Belknap Mill

  • Community engagement through events at Tanger (like Halloween and Christmas)

  • Partnership with Castle in the Clouds, decorating a room each year at Christmas

  • And of course, our Gallery hanging space—the heart of it all.

And who can take part in all of this? All of you—our LRAA members.

If you haven’t gotten involved yet, I encourage you to explore something that interests you. We have so much to offer, and I’d truly love to meet more of you. Our next Art Talk is Monday, April 20—I hope to see you there!

Monthly Art Drawing

A heartfelt thank you to LRAA member artist Pam Gramm for generously donating this delightful artwork for our April 2026 Free Drawing. Our members truly appreciate her kindness and support of this important marketing effort. This charming image, featuring an adorable young orangutan with a drowsy smile, closed eyes, and wispy hair, is sure to capture attention and warm hearts.

Donations like Pam’s help us create fun, welcoming ways to engage visitors and encourage return traffic to the gallery. We hope other artists will also consider donating artwork for future drawings. Gallery sitters and members can easily support this effort by warmly inviting visitors to enter the drawing, pointing out the featured artwork, and reminding them that participating is a simple and enjoyable way to stay connected with the gallery.

Join the team helping guide the next chapter of our creative community.

Be part of the team that helps guide and strengthen our creative community. We’re looking for enthusiastic members who would enjoy sharing ideas, supporting our mission, and helping our organization continue to grow.

We currently have openings for a full-time Secretary, backup Secretary and Treasurer, and additional Board members. Whether your strengths are in organization, planning, collaboration, or fresh thinking, your involvement can make a real impact.

And if you know a talented artist who would enjoy being part of our creative community, please invite them to join us.

Monthly Members Meeting

April 20th Member Speaker

Michelle Palys

Light & Composition

When: April 15th at 9:30 am

Where:  Flip Side Restaurant

566 Main St, Laconia, NH 03246

Open invitation for all members of the Lakes Region Art Association to join in a fun, informal gathering where art enthusiasts connect over morning refreshments, share ideas, and discuss art — or anything else (except politics). No formal speakers, just lively, relaxed conversation.

Help Us Spread the Word

Thanks to the generosity of Member Artist Gerrard Paquette, children ages 8 and older can enjoy a Free Kids Paint Party each month. Gerrard cheerfully leads young painters in creating their own artwork, with a different theme every month. An adult or guardian must accompany each child and, if space permits, may even join in the fun. With space limited to just six painters, families are encouraged to register early.

Association members can help this program grow by spreading the word to families, friends, neighbors, and community groups. Your simple recommendation could help a young artist discover a love for art and introduce new families to all the Association has to offer.

I’m Not Worthy!

Far too many artists quietly tell themselves their work is not good enough, not polished enough, or not worthy of a solo show. In truth, that feeling is often less about the art and more about insecurity, self-doubt, and the fear of rejection. Many artists are far more ready than they believe.

A solo show is not about claiming perfection. It is about stepping forward, being seen, and allowing others to connect with your creative voice. If you have been waiting until you feel completely confident, this may be the very moment to set those fears aside. Take the leap, trust your work, and give your art career the opportunity to grow.

Get the Word Out!

May 7th to 22nd

Do you know a young artist with a creative spark? Please help us spread the word about this annual exhibit and encourage children, grandchildren, neighbors, and family friends to register. With four age groups from Kindergarten through 12th grade, participants have the opportunity to showcase their talent, win cash and product prizes, and enjoy the excitement of having their name and artwork in the public eye. It is a wonderful chance for young artists to be recognized, encouraged, and inspired.

Buzz & Bloom Event at the Black Forest Nursery

June 13, 2026

‍Black Forest Nursery is gearing up for our Spring season here at Black Forest Nursery and with that comes planning another Buzz & Bloom event where we invite you to paint amongst the flowers!

This year, we have our event planned for June 13th from 10 AM to 2 PM, as part of a larger celebration for National Pollinator Week. Artists are welcome to join us for the full four hours, or for just the first or last two hours, whatever works best for your schedule.

Similar to last year's event, every artist will have the opportunity to sell their work from bins as long as you can provide your own point of sale payment system, and everyone will be given a flag so that customers can find you in the nursery. If you're interested in having a larger space to sell and promote your artwork, we have 10x10 vendor spots available for $20 as long as you can provide your own table, table coverings, and a tent if desired. Otherwise, you are welcome to set up anywhere around the nursery free of charge with your easels and a bin of artwork you wish to sell.

Email blackforestnursery.isabel@gmail.com to let them know when you can attend: 10am - 2pm, 12 pm - 2 pm or for the full 4 hours.

Thank you all so much! We are looking forward to hosting you again!

  • 1)   Please help us stay on top of the floor cleaning, especially this spring.  The Guidelines are under the Book of Clover, and are meant to reduce the work load for all of us.

    2)   Bar codes that you have requested are in the right side of the shelves under the TV.  When printed, they will be there, and it is the artist’s responsibility to check for accuracy and attach them to their art work.  Typically, bar codes that belong in the book are put on the artist’s page.

    3)   Don’t forget to use the bar codes in the Book of Clover if there is no attached bar code on a piece of art work.  You DO NOT need to search the console for anything!

    4)   Please do not cut your bar codes out if there are useable labels left on a page.  The page can be put through the printer to print on the unused labels.  Simply peel off your labels, and replace the page on the shelf.Description text goes here

  • Our Mission Statement: "To enhance the ability of its members to create art and to further the appreciation of the arts in the greater Lakes Region area of New Hampshire by education, promotion, display, and sale of the visual fine arts.”

As part of our efforts to increase foot traffic, we have introduced a Monthly Free Art Drawing. Visitors to the Gallery can enter the drawing and sign up for our customer newsletter at the same time (one entry per visitor each month).

We are currently seeking donations of artwork (original or print) from Association members to use as prizes. (One per month.) The drawing will take place on the last open Gallery day of each month.  I’m thinking to alternate photography with brush art each month. We need a Photograph for May.

Winners and donating artists may be featured on social media and in local newspapers, providing great publicity for both the Gallery and the artist.

  • Please be sure to mention the drawing to visitors. You might also reassure them that we send only one email per month, as some people are hesitant to share their email address with multiple mailing lists.

  • Contact Lynn Casey if you can assist with the exhibit set up.

  • ‍It’s an efficient, workable and affordable program!  If you are having difficulties, don’t give up, get help.  Some have encountered the need for a code to sign in- just do what it asks, and you’ll get in.  If you still have difficulty getting in, delete the app entirely, and re-install.  Next, if you can’t figure out what to do, try the written instructions.  Contact Gail to have them sent to you, or make an appointment to meet with her for one-on-one instruction.

IMPORTANT:  Requests for trades and coverage MUST be made through Homebase.  Even if you have made an agreement with someone, one of you must make the request, and the other respond, through Homebase.  Please use schedule@lraanh.org for anything else scheduling related.

    ‍ ‍

  • Due to the increased use of bar codes, we have a reduced incidence of errors!  Thanks to all who have made this a priority!  Please remember to use inventory@lraanh.org to request bar codes, and send a quick text to Gail that you have sent a request.  (Just because she doesn’t check the email daily.)

  • Using the proper email address for Gallery contacts ensures that your contact is seen.  Sending to private emails, texts, and Messenger means that the recipient may have to search for it, if they see the notification, amongst all the various ways they may have received it.  Or they may miss it altogether.  And someday, that person may not be the one doing that job anymore, or the Back-Up may be handling it at the time.  Sending all bar code requests to one place means your information gets to the right place!

  • To maximize attendance and energy at our ArtTalks, shows, and other events, our plans have been made for 2026. The earlier we can  promote them—through our newsletter, website, and social media—the better chance we have of drawing a great crowd and building excitement.

Being part of the Association means being an active part of the team that keeps things running smoothly and creatively. From event planning and setup to promotion and maintenance, it takes all of us working together to keep the Gallery- and the Association- vibrant and thriving.

We welcome your ideas and participation! Whether it’s suggesting a topic, hosting a talk, or lending a hand behind the scenes, your involvement truly matters.

Let’s keep growing together and making each event better than the last!

  • Is it your time…to hang in the Gallery?  Have you been unsure of yourself, fearful that you aren’t good enough to hang?  Find that it doesn’t fit in your schedule?  Or any other roadblocks that keep you from looking into this?  Contact Sherwood or Gail to talk about it and see what we can do to help you overcome whatever obstacles that might hinder you.

  • Someone to manage off-site venues. Contact Sherwood or Gail for more details if you think you can help.

📬 Interested? Click here to let us know you’re willing to help!

Your willingness to share a bit of your time and knowledge helps keep the Gallery strong, supported, and running smoothly for everyone.

  • We are now requiring that all art submissions and payments be made by the "Art Drop Off" date, which are listed at the top of the registration forms. It is also important to register by the date listed on the forms.

  • Help Us Become Polished and Professional. To ensure our exhibits look their best, we print all wall tags in advance—so completing your registration on time is key. You’ll find registration forms and exhibit details linked in our newsletters and on the website.

Hint:  Mark important dates on your calendar—with an alert a few days before the actual deadlines. Then, get in the habit of checking your calendar each morning.

  • We try to be accommodating with pick up times, and have created a safe space in the back for your artwork.  Please remember to pick up as soon as possible!
